Alice Lam was born in Honiara, Solomon Islands. She completed high school and received a scholarship to train as a pharmacist in New Zealand. After graduation, Alice initially practiced in community retail pharmacy. However, after five years, her aspiration to improve medication utilization led her to transition into clinical pharmacy.
Alice seized an opportunity to work in the NHS in the UK, where she specialized in tertiary and quaternary hospitals, accumulating nearly 25 years of clinical pharmacy experience across London, New Zealand, and Australia. Her expertise spans various clinical areas, including general medicine, neurology, cardiology, respiratory, renal care, surgery, infectious diseases, and critical care.
Eager to advance clinical care, Alice migrated to Australia and assumed the Lead Senior Clinical Pharmacist role at Peninsula Health. Under her leadership, she expanded a team from 7 to 30 pharmacists, showcasing robust leadership and team-building skills. Subsequently, Alice progressed to Acting Deputy Director and later assumed the role of Associate Director of Pharmacy, Clinical Services, holding these positions for approximately five years. Throughout this tenure, she exhibited exceptional leadership by implementing transformative changes in clinical pharmacy services, focusing particularly on high-risk patients with complex medication regimens.
Alice is not only a practitioner but also a contributor to the field, with 10 publications to her credit. Notably, she pioneered the development of the hospital's first antibiogram in 2010. This initiative aimed to improve antimicrobial use and evidence-based prescribing, contributing significantly to enhanced patient care while driving service improvement initiatives within the healthcare setting.
In 2022, driven by a pursuit of professional development, Alice retrained as a Project Manager, achieving qualification as a PRINCE2 practitioner. This transition underscores her commitment to evolving healthcare practices and adapting to new methodologies.
