Francis Thorn, née Remington

d. 1954.


Frances Remington (married name Thorn) was a foundation member of the Victorian Women Graduates’ Association, and one of original trustees of the Endowment Fund. She was the foundation president of VWGA, serving from 1921-1923, and also the foundation president of the Australian Federation of University Women, serving from 1922-26.


Frances Remington was born in South Australia but lived mostly in Melbourne. She was educated at Methodists Ladies College, where she later spent periods as a teacher. She also taught at Tintern. She graduated BA from Melbourne in 1898. She was active in the Kindergarten Union, in the Lyceum Club (President 1934–36), in the National Council of Women and in the YWCA.
